Literature Text

Another stormy day. The books were all aligned to perfection, but there were still many pages to fix before he returned home. He never seemed to keep them in much order anymore.

Amaryllis is a keeper fairy, you see. They tend to clean and look after things when humans aren’t around.  Humans are always in a rush that they tend to overlook the little things. That’s when the keeper fairies step in. When you lose your car keys? They lay them out for you…though some of them are…playful. Your keys may end up under the couch or on the fridge shelf! She walked along the bookshelf and ran her hands over the titles; he had a lot of comic books. Those were her favorite too; she loved looking at the pictures when he leaves them out on the desk.

Straightening out her red & black dress, she looked to a flower on the edge of the desk. She was born from an Amaryllis: a bright crimson flower. Currently her “home” was potted in a red & white pot with a black ribbon tied gently around the base; he took wonderful care of it and for that she couldn’t thank him enough. Without it, Amaryllis would not be alive. You see, when a fairy is born from a flower it is their lifeline: if the flower is healthy, they are healthy. When it dies...well you can guess why a lot of fairies don’t live for very long.

She fluttered over to the desk for inspection, picked up a nearby pencil, and hoisted it back into the container with a huff. A pencil was almost three times her size, so it was a little awkward, but she was strong for her size. Still not as heavy as his keys, though; which he left on his desk again?
Amaryllis ran her hand down the engraved keychain with his name carved into it: Micah. The tiny keeper fairy looked at her reflection in the metal of the keys. Blonde hair tied back in a ponytail and a pair of plastic glasses over her blue/grey eyes; most days she liked the way she looked. Grabbing one of the rings of the key, Amaryllis began to tug it towards the center where he’d be sure to see it. Before she could get too far, though, a door slam shut and a pair of footsteps climbing the stairs in the hall. Quickly, she ducked behind the pencil container and waited.

It was always nice when she got to see him up and moving; often he is only home at night playing videogames, sleeping, or reading. Micah ran his hand through dark brown hair and sighed, clearly frustrated as his bright green eyes scanned for his keys.  Amaryllis clung to the side of the container and watched him closely, his arm casting a shadow as he spotted the keys and grabbed them. Her heart raced as she could feel the heat of his hand beside her. Just as quickly as Micah was there, he was gone again.
Amaryllis fluttered away from the container and stood where the keys once stood. Humans were fascinating creatures: always on the go someplace to another. Sometimes it was lonely being a keeper fairy…but she couldn’t go too far from her flower. The tiny girl sighed and continued to pick up what she could before Micah would return home.

There really never was enough hours in the day. Amaryllis sat on the petal of her flower that night, looking out the window to the darkened world outside; she always wondered how many fairies wandered outside the walls of his home.

The familiar sound of the door slamming shut greeted her ears and instantly brightened her mood; he returned home for the evening. Amaryllis shuffled over to her flower, hiding behind the red and white pot, peeking out the side. His door smashed open and he came in, tossing his backpack onto the floor as it slid to the bookshelf. She could only ponder he had a bad day, this was his ritual for when the day hadn’t gone well: he’d toss his bag onto the floor, letting whatever may fly out of it and thump into bed to sleep the anger away. Micah didn’t disappoint.

With a frustrated growl he jumped onto his bed and for a few minutes it was only the sound of the squeaking springs of the mattress. Amaryllis waited until she could hear the steady breathing of him falling asleep, but it never came. She peeked behind the pot a little and had to hold in her squeak of surprise: Micah was looking right at her from the bed. With a graceful jump he stood and made his way over to the flower. Amaryllis squeezed herself into a ball, praying he hadn’t seen her; she didn’t know if it was against the law or anything but she was super shy to meet him.

“Can’t forget to water you, little one.” His voice was deep and it rumbled Amaryllis’ body to the core. It wasn’t often he got to hear him speak. Micah had grabbed a water bottle and was watering her flower above her. Instantly she could feel herself get stronger, happier as the flower drank in the water.

He finished feeding the flower, shuffled back towards the bed, and ultimately just flopped down and fell asleep. Amaryllis mad sure he was asleep before she made any kind of movement: she was so energized now! A sudden feeling grew inside of the tiny keeper fairy, taking over: she wanted to show her appreciation.

Biting her lip nervously she took off, fluttering over towards the giant bed against the opposite wall. She landed softly on his pillow and she was taken back by how close she was to his head. His hair looked soft… the warmth from his head…he smelled very strange...but she liked it. Amaryllis looked nervously back to the desk and then to the sleeping giant before her; he was so kind. He took such good care of her flower. She wanted to thank him.

Taking a deep breath she fluttered up and over to the other side of the pillow, coming face to face her sleeping keeper. Micah looked so peaceful. Her eyes traveled to his lips, slightly parted as he breathed. A kiss…she would give him a kiss as a thank you. Amaryllis walked over to Micah and stood in front of his lips and nose. His breath pushed and pulled her dress lazily as she stood nervously.

With a deep breath she leaned in and placed her tiny lips against his bottom lip in a quick kiss. The skin was soft and his warm breath played with her hair and she hugged his lip gently before moving back; she hoped he dreamed of her thanks. With a bright smile she turned around and began to walk back up the pillow but a deep rumbling stopped her. The ground shook and she caught herself on her knees before falling off the pillows. The tiny fairy looked up to see a yawning, stretching giant shaking the bed before he laid back on his side. A pair of bright green eyes stared at her blue/green ones curiously, not fully aware of what they were seeing in the dim light of the desk lamp.
A new story that I had running around in my head. I am a dummy!
Please let me know what you think and I will get to work on chapter 2!

That was very cute, very sweet. Both help each other out and he doesn't even know it.
